What is Pilates?

All About
The Pilates Hub

Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on your body's core. This helps to improve general fitness and overall well-being. Through a series of gentle, flowi ng, repetitive moves, Pilates helps strengthen your core, improve your balance and posture, and increase your suppleness, all in one class. It has so many benefits:

Good Posture: Pilates will teach you to gain and maintain good posture. The exercises require that your body is always in alignment. This is especially beneficial if you suffer from lower back pain.

Increased Muscle Tone: The exercises involve the use of muscles that you may not use on a daily basis. After possible initial soreness, you'll find that your muscles will be much more toned.

Increased Flexibility: Pilates will gently restore your flexibility, which is especially important for avoiding injuries from falls.

Improved balance: Through the mind-body connection which is taught in Pilates, you will become much more aware of how your body moves and performs. Therefore Pilates will not only improve your physical balance, through correct posture, but will also restore your mind-body balance.

Reduced stress: Taking regular exercise has been proven to relieve stress and bring a sense of well-being through the balance of mind and body.

The Pilates Hub is owned and run by Emma Sinclair-Larner.

Emma is a highly experienced Pilates instructor and personal trainer, having taught Pilates classes locally for over 16 years following a previous career in the city.

She is a level 4 exercise specialist in lower back pain, which means that she can accept referrals from osteopaths, G.P.s, chiropractors and physiotherapists. Through gentle focused exercises in private sessions, she has helped many clients restore their back functionality, become pain free, and help them prevent further back-pain issues in the future.

Emma particularly enjoys teaching Pilates classes for the diversity that they provide: using a combination of mat based exercises, and equipment such as resistance bands and Pilates balls, Emma produces interesting and varied classes which clients never tire of. She is particularly astute at tailoring exercises to suit individual client needs, meaning that her classes are suitable for all a ges and abilities.

When Emma is not in a Pilates studio, she can often be found at Green Park swimming pool in Aston Clinton, where she owns and manages Dolphin Swim School.
